The underground environment of coal mines is harsh, and the requirements for reel cables (such as those for mining machine reels) are on a completely different level compared to those for the ground.
Three major downhole threats: First, methane and gas, cables must be flame-retardant and explosion-proof, and sparks are major sources of accidents; Second, **mechanical damage**, with mining equipment moving frequently, cables being crushed, dragged, and scraped are common; Third, **damp water accumulation**, with high underground humidity, cable insulation and sheaths must be water-resistant.

When selecting models, the movement mode of mining equipment should also be considered: drag-and-pull, drum-type, and suspended types have different loads and structural requirements.
Another key point is **the bending radius when cable drag**: the underground space is narrow, and cables often bend at small radii, so the design should be 4-5 times the outer diameter. At the same time, the sheath's wear-resistant layer should be thickened to prevent scratches from coal gangue.
