For wind power generation, servo motors, and CNC machine tool encoder cables, faults are often not 'the wire is broken,' but rather 'the signal is messed up.' Encoder signals are high-frequency pulses, extremely sensitive to interference, and the quality of the shielding structure directly determines system stability.
The shielding of encoder cables usually has two layers: **aluminum foil shielding and copper braided shielding**. The aluminum foil is responsible for high-frequency interference shielding, while the braid is responsible for low-frequency and electric field shielding. Both layers work together to provide wideband interference resistance. However, many low-cost encoder cables have insufficient braid density (less than 60%), resulting in high resistance in the shielding layer, allowing interference to penetrate nonetheless.
Another key point is **the grounding method of the shield layer**: whether the shield layer of the encoder cable should be grounded at one end or both ends depends on the frequency of the interference source and the system grounding design. If the shield layer is grounded incorrectly, it can turn into an antenna, making the signal worse. This is a common pitfall during on-site commissioning.
In addition, the twist pitch of the encoder cable's core wires and the insulation material (such as foamed PE) also affect signal transmission quality. Tightly twisted cores can effectively suppress crosstalk, and foamed insulation reduces capacitance, ensuring that high-frequency signals are transmitted over long distances without attenuation.
