Grab Cables (Crane Grab Reel Cables)

Grab bucket cable, also known as crane grab bucket drum cable, is a special cable specially designed for various types of grab bucket crane equipment, mainly used to provide power and control connections for grab bucket equipment. Here is a detailed introduction about it:

Application scenarios: Widely used in mechanical equipment such as garbage grab buckets, slag grab buckets, dredging grab buckets, and marine grab buckets, and also suitable for drum (reel) devices of engineering machinery such as cranes, conveyors, mobile self-propelled ship unloaders, stacker reclaimers, and large gantry cranes.

Performance requirements

High tensile resistance: During the operation of the grab, the cable needs to withstand its own weight as well as the pulling force of the grab, so it needs to have high-strength tensile performance. Usually, galvanized tensile steel wires, Kevlar fibers, and other tensile load-bearing elements are added inside the cable to ensure that the cable will not break under large pulling forces.

Bending resistance: The frequent lifting and movement of the grab bucket requires the cable to have good bending resistance. The minimum bending radius of grab bucket cables is usually low, generally as low as 5-6 times the cable's outer diameter, and can withstand millions of bending cycles to meet the daily thousands of lifting and lowering movements of the grab bucket.

Wear resistance: In some harsh working environments, such as mines and ports, cables are prone to friction with surrounding objects, so the outer sheath needs to have high wear resistance. Common outer sheath materials include polyurethane (TPU), which can withstand prolonged friction without damage.

Environmental resistance: Grab bucket cables are usually required to be used outdoors or in harsh industrial environments, and need to have weather resistance, oil resistance, corrosion resistance, waterproofing, UV resistance, and other properties to adapt to different working environments, such as the saline mist environment of ports, the dusty environment of mines, and the corrosive environment of waste treatment plants.

Torsion Resistance: Since the grab bucket may twist during operation, the cable needs to have torsion resistance to prevent the conductors inside the cable from twisting, deforming, or even breaking. This performance is generally achieved by designing a special anti-torsion layer, such as an aramid braided mesh.

Structural characteristics

Conductor: Made of multiple strands of fine oxygen-free bare copper wires, twisted together in multiple strands, complying with VDE0295/IEC Class5 or Class6 standards to ensure the cable's conductivity and flexibility.

Insulation: Made with high-quality blended elastomer nitrile / automotive materials / TPE materials, it has good insulation performance and flexibility.

Core wire identification: Uses color coding or numerical numbering to facilitate wiring and maintenance for users.

Reinforcements: According to needs, multi-strand hemp ropes, galvanized steel wires, Kevlar tensile fibers, and other materials can be selected as reinforcements to improve the cable's tensile and torsional performance.

Inner Sheath: Made of extruded high-strength special composite sheath material, it protects the internal core wires and reinforcements of the cable.

Shielding: For grab cables that need to transmit control signals, oxygen-free bare copper mesh or anti-oxidation copper mesh braided shielding is used, with a braid density of ≥70% or above 85%, to effectively prevent interference from both internal and external sources.

Outer sheath: Usually made of high-strength imported PUR material, it has wear-resistant, oil-resistant, and weather-resistant properties.
