In recent years, polyurethane has become increasingly important in the cable industry, as this material exhibits rubber-like mechanical properties at certain temperatures; therefore, wires and cables made from polyurethane materials are called polyurethane cables.
Mechanical properties:
Cable insulation materials are generally not subjected to high mechanical stress. On the other hand, sheaths are used extensively. This is especially suitable for flexible control and connection cables, which are often pulled over sharp corners and rough surfaces. This can lead to protruding cuts when stretching cables during flexible use. Compressive stress caused by squeezing and impacts by tools and machines may also occur.
The most important mechanical properties of PUR polyurethane cables are:
1. High tensile strength
2. High tear resistance
3. Notch resistance
4. Wear Resistance
5. Alternating bending resistance
6. Impact resistance
7. Flexibility at low temperatures
Chemical properties
Chemical resistance depends on many factors, such as the type of chemical, reaction time, temperature, volume, concentration, and of course the type of polyurethane used. Compared with many other materials (such as rubber or PVC), PUR has better resistance to chemical reactions.
The outstanding chemical properties of polyurethane cables are:
1. Has very good resistance to mineral oil
2. It has good resistance to non-alcoholic gasoline
3. Good resistance when stored in water
4. Good resistance to many solvents
Chemistry example:
1. After prolonged exposure to humidity and warmth, polyester-type polyurethane poses a risk of microbial decomposition.
2. After prolonged exposure to warm water or tropical climates, polyester-based polyurethane undergoes chemical reactions. The result is a reduction in mechanical strength.
The polyether-type polyurethane used in Nanyou cables is resistant to microbial degradation; it is also relatively more resistant to hydrolytic degradation.
Note: Under all climatic conditions, polyether-based polyurethane has weather resistance and ozone resistance. However, it may be subject to fading from sunlight, but this does not affect the performance of polyurethane cables.
